Bovine vs. Marine Collagen: which should you be taking?

DermaPro™ is formulated using HYDROLYSED bovine collagen as Peptan® backed by science

Marine Collagen

Marine collagen is derived from parts of the fish previously discarded during processing: skin and scales which comprise primarily of type 1 collagen.

No traceability

Wild caught fish have no specie traceability, whilst farmed fish are routinely fed antibiotics and treated with pesticides and can develop elevated levels of dioxins. (dioxins impair the endocrine, immune, nervous and reproductive systems and are carcinogens)

marine collagen

Diminished fish populations

Fish populations are diminishing as oceans become over-farmed. Scientists are detecting a drop in fish populations world wide as a result of over fishing.

Increased marine pollution

Our oceans and its marine life are drowning in a sea of garbage, chemical pollution and acidification from:

  • oil spills
  • chemical runoff from land-based activities
  • carbon emissions
  • untreated sewage disposal
  • toxic material dumping
  • heavy metals
  • nuclear accidents
  • micro-plastics

"Fishy" taste

Besides being bitter, marine collagen can sometimes taste "fishy". Liquid carriers, artificial sweeteners, flavours and other counter-intuitive ingredients are used in an attempt to mask anything unpleasant.

Grass-fed Bovine Collagen

Pasture-raised bovine collagen is derived from cow hide which contains primarily type 1 collagen with type 3 collagen.

There are at least 16 types of collagen but 80-90% of the collagen in the body consists of type 1, 2 & 3. Types 1 & 3 are beneficial to our skin whilst type 2 is specific to joints.

bovine collagen

Complete traceability

Traceability is key for food safety. Cattle traceability is regulated from pasture to plate.

bovine collagen

Superior amino acid profile

Hydrolysed for superior absorption, bovine collagen (as Peptan®) is backed by science. It contains a unique combination of 18 amino acids including 8 essential amino acids (essential amino acids cannot be produced by the body and can only be derived from diet). Amino acids are the building blocks of our tissues and the primary component of proteins. Glycine, Proline and Hydroxyproline are key to any collagen’s anti-ageing and skincare boosting benefits and these represent around 50% of DermaPro's™ Collagen’s total amino acid profile; the Glycine and Proline concentration in DermaPro™ Collagen is 10 to 20 times higher than in other proteins. As a result, DermaPro™ Collagen offers skincare and health benefits that cannot be found in other protein sources.

bovine collagen

Grass-fed, Non-GMO

Happy cows make for happy collagen! Cows are meant to be out in the pasture, eating grass and having a good time. That said, our cows may get some feed as they transition off of the pasture or during times of extreme drought.

bovine collagen

Free from antibiotics and growth hormones

According to regulations if any antibiotics have been administered, routinely or as a necessity a withdrawal period is legally required so that no residues are present in the animals system. The ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil is responsible for controlling the correct use of any substances in accordance with the Maximum Residual Limit (MRL). All harvested animals have been declared fit for human consumption and it has been concluded that there is no health threat connected to the raw materials used in the production of collagen. DermaPro™ Collagen (as Peptan®) is produced in state of the art facilities which meet or exceed global standards and is certified under ISO 9001 and international food standards.

bovine collagen

Neutral taste

DermaPro™ hydrolysed bovine collagen is neutral tasting and odourless and is easily dissolved in any hot or cold beverage of choice.

Bovine collagen is far superior, more regulated and carries significantly less risk of toxins and chemicals.
